“I can’t believe you spent this much money on a hotel room,” Janette said, stepping into the presidential suite with apprehension. “Ooh, it’s so beautiful. Look at how clean this bathroom is, and, oh my gosh, look at this tub! Oh, Chandler, can we stay here forever and live here?”
“We can stay here tonight,” Chandler said with humor in his voice. “And I wouldn’t live anywhere but Michigan if you paid me a million dollars.”
“I’m taking a bath before I do anything else,” Janette said with excitement.
“Oh look, a champagne welcome basket.” Chandler started digging through the goodies while Janette hurried over to see.
“Well, neither of us drinks alcohol, but that was very nice of the hotel to provide this. Ooh, there’s Lindt chocolate truffles.” Janette unwrapped one and popped it in her mouth, moaning with pleasure as her favorite chocolate melted and exploded in her mouth.
“Dang, girl, you make me wish I was a chocolate truffle.” Chandler’s voice was husky.
“That could be arranged,” she answered with a mouth full of chocolate.
Chandler stepped closer and put his hands on her hips. Unfortunately, the gesture reminded Janette that if she ate many more of these truffles, there’d be more love handles on those hips than she already had.
“How about you go take that bath and I’ll get us unpacked.” He kissed her lightly on her lips. “And then we can discuss how best to enjoy the rest of that basket of chocolate.”
“I love that idea.” She reached onto her toes and returned his kiss before slipping out of his arms.
The bathroom was pure luxury. And huge. And segmented so that one person could be in the bath while the other could use the toilet and neither of them would be bothered by the other. Plus, there was a separate area with two sinks and perfect lighting for applying cosmetics. There were little shelves and benches and racks all within reach where a person could have towels and bathmats, and convenient locations for toiletries and a change of clothes. They’d thought of everything. Janette sank into hot, bubbly, scented heaven and laid her head back to enjoy the steam.
After ten minutes of peace and quiet, there was a soft knock on the door and Chandler peeked his head in. “Want some company?” He entered wearing nothing but a silk bathrobe and a soft grin.
“Heck yeah.” Janette sat up and made room in the tub as her husband slid into the water alongside her, nearly overflowing the tub. She snuggled up to him and leaned in for a kiss then mumbled. “This is the best twenty-fifth wedding anniversary we’ve ever had.”
“And just think, next month we get to celebrate our real wedding date.” Chandler pulled her even closer.
“Maybe not with this expensive of a hotel room,” Janette said between kisses.
“How about we celebrate our anniversary by remodeling the upstairs bathroom to include a big tub like this so we can celebrate year-round?”
“I love that idea,” she said.
“I love you,” Chandler said. “I’m really glad we came on this vacation together.”
“Me too.” Janette’s kiss silenced any further discussion for the night.
