Why did I get so flustered over Ashton’s hand on my waist? Michelle didn’t want to stand next to Ashton. Thankfully he had moved away quickly, but not before he had given her waist a little squeeze as if to remind her that he was still there, even if he was hanging out in the back of the group.
It didn’t matter where he was in the room, Michelle was very aware of Ashton. She purposely tucked herself next to Brock and smiled up at him, subtly batting her eyelashes.
Rachel Gibbons appeared almost out of nowhere, in show-mode, to announce that the producers had a surprise for the contestants of the television show, Love Letters.
The competition section of the arena had been cleared of all amateur and professional streamers to make room for Michelle, Brock, and every other one of her guys. Victor would get his wish, the chance to compete against Brock. Translation: Brock-cast was going to make a fool out of Victor.
Poor Victor. She reminded herself to focus her attention on Brock.
An announcer came on the loudspeaker to announce that reigning Fortnite champion, Brock-cast would be playing against his date, Michelle, and the other fourteen guys competing for her hand.
“Reigning champion?” Michelle raised her eyebrows.
“Told you I was good,” Brock said.
“What was the prize? A trophy?”
“Cash.” He seemed reluctant to say more, which made Michelle suspicious that it had been a lot more than he was letting on.
“Mmm hmm.” Brock helped Michelle up into the seat of the game console like a gentleman, but Michelle wasn’t letting it go.
“One-point-five,” Brock mumbled.
“Million?” Michelle spoke a little too loudly.
“Shoot, that’s the annual salary for an average pro-baseball player.” Victor seemed unimpressed. “Of course, I’m not exactly the average player.”
“Brag much?” Mason asked.
“Let’s just play some video games,” Ashton mumbled, settling into his own console. He looked comfortable picking up the headset and adjusting the microphone. Michelle wondered if Fortnite was an amateur hobby for the professional surfer.
This could get interesting.
