Skyler had almost messed up. He still wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel. But walking in that first day he had the hottest cheerleader in the school on his right arm, and to his left the hottest girl on their football team.
Okay, the only girl on the football team, but likely the hottest topic of conversation. Most of the student body hadn’t known of Jonnie’s transformation over the summer and probably thought the same thing he’d thought when he’d first seen her—new cheerleader.
Jayce was quick to shove Skyler out of the way when they walked up to where the team congregated in the foyer by the gym. “Look at you!” Jayce wrapped his arm around Jonnie’s waist, effectively claiming her.
Jonnie bumped her hip against his and batted her eyelashes, flirting playfully. Her expression changed and she dismissed Jayce when she saw Aiden. “Oh my gosh, you look amazing!”
She jumped toward Aiden’s outstretched arms and allowed him to pull her into a hug. Skyler had to admit Aiden’s transformation had been almost as drastic as Jonnie’s. His hulking form had trimmed down thanks to Jonnie dragging him out jogging every evening.
Seeing him every day in his jersey and pads, Skyler hadn’t realized how fit Aiden looked in slacks and a button-down shirt. Skyler felt a pang of jealousy for the second time in two minutes and turned away to wrap his arm more firmly around Amberlyn’s waist. “You ready to get to first hour?”
By the time Skyler turned to head down the hall, Jonnie was flanked by guys and led in the point position toward their first class. Standing several feet behind the pack, Skyler had the chance to witness everyone in the crowd do a double take when they noticed the hot new girl with her pack of disciples.
Little did they know that hot new girl wasn’t new, and she was about to shake up the world of high school football. Skyler was excited to have a front row seat to the excitement.
