“Hello, yourself,” Cora answered. Her cheeks turned a lovely shade of pink and she dipped her face to break eye contact.
Brock realized he was giving his undivided attention to only one of the two ladies standing beside him. He reached around Cora to offer his hand to Nicole. “Nicole, right?”
Cora lifted her gaze with a flash of anger in her eyes until she noticed Brock shaking Nicole’s hand.
“Have the two of you become friends already?” Brock asked. “You rode in the same limo.”
“Yes,” Nicole said. “Cora was the only woman brave enough to introduce herself to me.”
“You are quite intimidating.” Brock hoped his tone was complimentary. “I don’t mean this to sound like I’m hitting on you, but, ya know, you did sign up for this so I’m assuming it’s okay if I hit on you, but you have the most incredible body I have ever seen.”
Nicole and Cora were both laughing at Brock’s stuttering. Great. He felt his cheeks warm. How embarrassing.
“Now that you’ve had a good laugh at my expense—” Brock cleared his throat. “I’m assuming there’s a story behind why you are so…” He trailed off, at a loss for words that wouldn’t dig him further into embarrassment.
“Fit?” Nicole suggested.
“Yes,” Brock said. “Fit. That’s exactly the word I was looking for. Are you a professional body builder, or something?”
“I’m a Lieutenant in the United States Navy,” Nicole answered.
“Wow…” Brock was at a loss for words again. He realized his jaw was hanging open. There was admiration and awe in his next statement. “Thank you for your service.”
“You’re welcome.” Nicole smiled shyly and turned almost the same soft blush as Cora had.
Brock cleared his throat and reached for the beer the bartender had placed beside him on the bar. When he glanced up again his eyes met Cora’s and he didn’t look away.
That was probably going to be the most difficult part about this whole process; splitting his attention between multiple girls at once. Especially when there was one to whom he’d like to devote all his attention.
Yeah, this was going to be more difficult than he thought.
