Wondering ‘What should I read next?’ Read Meant to ... Date by Mary Kelly Reed
Mandy loves her life and doesn’t think that finding her soul mate is essential to her happiness. Her friends, however, are of a different opinion, and she has had more than enough of their innumerable attempts to find her the perfect man. When they promise to stop annoying her if she agrees to meet five men they choose, she gives in. She’s convinced she can prove to them that blind dates aren’t the best way to find your soul mate, and she’s counting on the public following her adventures on a blog to stand behind her. Going from surprise to surprise, Mandy is carried away in a whirlwind of new encounters. However, she soon realizes she won’t be yet another romantic comedy heroine, forced to endure catastrophic dates. Her suitors are perfect … too perfect maybe? Not only that but whenever the public weighs in she gets even more confused and therefore incapable of deciphering what her heart really wants. Sometimes perfection is far from being what someone’s really looking for in life. EXCERPT 1 “Do you feel the electricity between us, too?” he asks with an air of wonder. “What? What electricity? I don’t feel anything at all,” I retort, annoyed. Is he making fun of me? “Too bad. I was hoping you would. I know that in order to give a man a real chance, you need to feel sparks fly around. You can deny it all you want, but you are the most romantic woman in existence.” The waiter comes to deliver our order, and I take advantage of the opportunity to finally pull my hand away. Once the waiter departs, I lean back and cross my arms. “No, I’m not,” I respond to Ryan’s last statement. “Should I remind you of what you told me about Kylie and Adam?” “Their love story is unique.” “Every love story is different and unique, and I promise you ours will be too,” he says with a wink. “All right, smarty pants. I see that I can’t get rid of you easily, so I’ll have to be more cunning. You want to play with me, let’s play. I promise you I’ll eliminate you from the game sooner or later.” EXCERPT 2 “If your life is as perfect as you pretend, how would I be able to disturb it?” “Don’t play this game with me. You know what I’m talking about.” “Actually, no I don’t. I think you’re just annoyed because you can’t stand the idea of having feelings for me. You can’t stand the idea that I may be right; that there may be something more than friendship between us.” “Might I remind you we have an appointment with Natalie this evening, and if I’m not mistaken, it was I who invited her.” Which I regret bitterly, but it’s not any time soon that I’ll admit it to you. “You did it because you wanted to prove to yourself that you weren’t jealous. The only problem is that you are.” “You are ...” I’m at loss for words. “You are impossible!” I’m always looking for the best books to read, and I need book recommendations. Wondering ‘What should I read next?’ Read Love and Loathing by Gigi Blume
A spunky chorus girl. A hotshot movie star. An unforgettable stage kiss. Beth Bennet can’t keep her mind off of Will Darcy—but only because he’s infuriatingly arrogant just like every other Hollywood type she’s known. It’s definitely not because he’s drop-dead gorgeous. If she didn’t need this job so badly, their choreography would be more like stage combat—toe-curling kiss notwithstanding. And since she swore to loathe him for all eternity, falling for him would be an extreme inconvenience. Will Darcy is only doing this musical as a favor to a friend, and he certainly could do without the distraction from the sassy and spirited Beth Bennet—even if she invades his daydreams like an over-zealous photo bomber. As sparks fly, riotous drama ensues when they can no longer fight the attraction on and off stage. But when the curtain falls and the lights dim, is their on-stage romance more than just a fantastic performance? I’m always looking for the best books to read, and I need book recommendations.
